Meditation from Sunday 1st January

Name above all names

What’s in a name, who is this Jesus we proclaim?

The angel said to Mary the child would be Messiah, the Saviour, Isaiah prophesied His name would be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace, Micah that he would be a ruler and shepherd of his people.

Jesus, Saviour, redeemer, healer, Lord. Emmanuel, God with us, the Son of the living God.

Jesus, Creator, carpenter, prophet, teacher, beloved son, the holy one of Israel.

Who is this Jesus, what is his name?

Jesus, the mediator, the judge, the good shepherd, the Lamb of God, the rock, the shoot from the stump of Jesse, the branch, the true vine.

Jesus, the morning star, the lion of Judah, the image of the invisible God, the bridegroom, the cornerstone

What is in a name, who is this Jesus we proclaim?

Jesus, the Alpha and Omega, the King of the Jews, our High Priest, our Advocate, our Master and our Servant.

Jesus, the Bread of Life, the Way the Truth and the Life, the Son of Man, the King of Israel.

Jesus, the head of the church, the Almighty, the Son of Man, the crucified, the risen Christ.

What is in His name, who is this Jesus we proclaim, is there power still, is there healing still, is there forgiveness, is there life? Is the name of Jesus a treasure, a love, encompassing all of the above.

Jesus, the Word, the body, and the blood, who sends his Holy Spirit from above as we are forgiven and redeemed by his grace, his love.

Jesus, the name before which every knee will bow.

Jesus, Lord of lords, King of Kings, Holy One.

Jesus, lover of my soul.

Jesus, Name above all Names.

This, this is Jesus whom we adore.

And His name,

His name shall be called wonderful.
